Family-Based Treatment (FBT), also known as the Maudsley Approach
Is a therapeutic intervention specifically designed to treat adolescents with eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa. FBT involves active participation from the entire family, where parents take the primary role in helping their child overcome the eating disorder.
The treatment typically consists of three phases:
Weight Restoration: Parents are responsible for refeeding their child and helping them restore weight to a healthy level.
Restoring Control: As the adolescent’s weight stabilizes, control over eating is gradually transferred back to them, with support from the family.
Establishing Healthy Patterns: The focus shifts towards addressing psychological and emotional issues related to the eating disorder, while the family continues to provide support and encouragement.
Empowering Families
FBT emphasizes empowering families to become agents of change in their child’s recovery process, promoting a supportive and collaborative environment to facilitate long-term healing.
*** The treatment plan is highly individualized and customized for each person’s needs.
In cases where necessary, I collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, alongside other healthcare professionals.
The time is now
